Diabetes travel insurance policies over-priced

Wed, 25 Jun 2008

A new study suggests that people with diabetes are being ripped off for their travel insurance policies due to their health condition. Reports indicate that many people with diabetes could have been discriminated against because of their condition, and have been given expensive quotes from insurance companies .

People with diabetes do not need to pay unnecessary premiums, the study claimed, with an estimated £185 million wasted per annum.

The managing director of Karma Insurance, Brian Wright, made it clear that people with diabetes should not have to pay over the odds. He was reported as commenting: "People with pre-existing conditions are more aware of their own bodies and how to look after them than the average person on the street, so why should they be penalised?"

Some specialist insurance companies are well-versed in the condition and understand how to quote fairly.
