Consumer Survey Shows Holiday Travel Provides Medical Benefits

Consumer research conducted with their customers, specialist travel insurance provider, PJ Hayman, shows that 61% of consumers with existing medical conditions consider that going on holiday affects their health positively.

800 UK consumers were surveyed, with the survey looking at the benefits of holidays for individuals who suffer from a range of conditions including diabetes, cancer, stroke, heart disease and high blood pressure .

Of those who had gone on holiday, 45% stated they felt less stressed and thus healthier, with 41% stating that they had gone on holiday for a rest and to relaxat which they considered would help their condition.

Moreover, holidays have attitudinal benefits as 24% felt more able to deal with their condition, with 27% stating that it allowed them to re-evaluate their situation and concentrate on being positive.

Cancer patients (78%) are most likely to consider that holidays have affected them positively with over half (56%) stating that it made them feel less stressed and therefore healthier, with 53% stating that it provided them with the opportunity to re-evaluate their situation and concentrate on being positive.

Consumers with existing medical conditions go on holiday at least once a year (98%) and gained various general wellbeing benefits. 67% stated that it gave them the opportunity to spend time with family and friends which made them feel better and 45% considered it as an opportunity to relax and not dwell on their condition. Many people (41%) also took this as an opportunity to fulfil a wish to see a location they had always wanted to see.
