Protect Yourself As Best As You Can From Swine Flu

Tue, 21 Jul 2009
The new H1N1 flu virus, better known as Swine Flu, would appear to be spreading.

Flu viruses can place those with chronic diseases, like diabetes, at severe risk of hospitalisation or even death.

Swine flu spreads through coughing and sneezing as do your regular seasonal influenza viruses.

There are certain ways in which you can try and protect yourself from swine flu:

Wash your hands as frequently as possible with soap and water, particularly after you have coughed or sneezed. You can also use alcohol-based hands cleaners as they are considered to be effective too.

Try not to be in the company of those who have the flu. Try not to touch your eyes, your nose or your mouth to prevent transference of the virus.

Do not attempt to go to work or school should you become sick.

Restrict contact with others to avoid infecting them.

Should you have the flu, use a tissue to cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze. Ensure that you throw away the tissue in a bin after having used it.
