25 Per Cent of Filipinos are Diabetic

This has prompted doctors in the Philippines to remind the public to reform their eating habits and include in their diet the kinds of food which will help lower the risk of developing diabetes .

Experts from the Philippine Society of Endocrine and Metabolic diseases (PSEM) stated that bad eating habits, such as, eating at fast food restaurants and the consumption of sugary meals and drinks has meant an increase in the number of diabetics in the country.

A recent International Diabetes Foundation (IDF) study revealed that the number of Filipinos aged 20 to 79 suffering from diabetes has increased to 3.4 million compared to 2 million in 2003.

The National Nutrition and Health Survey of 2003 placed the number of diabetic Filipinos at 25 percent.

Many Filipinos consider rice makes a person fat, however, it is actually the sauce and other additions which increase the number of calories .

This disease is soaring in this country as many people are becoming fat.

The number of diabetics is rising as obesity increases.
