Red Tinted Lenses Are A Valuable Health Aid to Diabetics

A brand new development in contact lens technology may mean the end of diabetes sufferers having to regularly check their blood sugar levels by using skin prick tests.

University of Western Ontario researchers have created lenses which chemically react to glucose present in tears.

The lenses monitor blood glucose levels and warn wearers of any changes by altering the tint.

This saves diabetics from having to undertake frequent blood tests .

Glucose levels in tears are shown 30 minutes behind levels in blood.

However, the majority of diabetics leave hours between each skin prick tests.

The lenses will nonetheless make for a more efficient and less invasive method.
