Sanofi-Aventis has claimed that a final-stage study of lixisenatide for Type 2 diabetes treatment helps control diabetes .

The Phase 3 trial results highlight that a daily dose of lixisenatide improves glycemic control for diabetics and lowers blood glucose levels.

It provides the drug maker with another foot in the highly competitive diabetes market.

Sales are anticipated to peak at $500 million, with the launch to be in 2010.

Sanofi is attempting to broaden its diabetes related solutions, which currently includes blockbuster insulin Lantus, Amaryl and Apidra.
