Chinese Herb Could Help Diabetics

A recent study has discovered that emodin, a natural product found in multiple Chinese herbs including Rheum palmatum and Polygonum cuspidatum, could help to lower the effects of type 2 diabetes .

The study highlighted that giving emodin to mice with food induced obesity reduced blood glucose and serum insulin, improved insulin resistance and lead to more healthy levels of lipid in the blood.

In addition, it decreased body weight and cut down central fat mass.

Should this be replicated amongst humans, the changes could benefit type 2 diabetics and those with other metabolic diseases related to insulin resistance.

Research is highlighting that an enzyme called 11ß-HSD1 plays a critical part in the body's response to sugar in your diet as this enzyme increases glucocorticoids' ability to act.

Chinese herbs are used in remedies for multiple ailments and this is yet another area where the use of such herbs has been fruitful.
