A top charity has requested more support from the government and other agencies following links between dementia and diabetes .
It asserted that more research needs to be conducted into the multiple links between dementia and diabetes .
Neil Hunt, the chief executive of the Alzheimer's Society, discussed the research into this illness conducted by Kings College London and published in the British Journal of Psychiatry, which concludes that diabetics are three times more likely to develop dementia from mild cognitive decline.
There is a much evidence related to the development of type 2 diabetes with an increased risk of dementia. Further research is necessary to determine how diabetes increases risk of Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia.
Mr Hunt added that this course of action could also enlighten scientists on some of the processes that can lead to Alzheimer's disease in general.
This follows the Alzheimer's Society demands earlier this week, when the charity called for political party election manifestos to address "serious failings in dementia care".
