A million plus Britons have got undiagnosed Type 2 diabetes, double what it was considered to be.

There were around 500,000 Britons with Type 2 diabetes in 2006 who were not aware of it.

However, new figures from the Diabetes Health Intelligence report suggest that 820,000 adults in England have yet to be diagnosed with diabetes.

Throughout the UK, this figure is nearer 1.1 million, according Diabetes UK analysis. This could increase the number of Type 2 and Type 1 diabetics, the latter not being connected to unhealthy living, to 5.5 million by 2030, according to the charity.

Type 2 diabetes remain undetected for a decade or even longer and approximately 50 per cent of individuals show signs of complications by when they are diagnosed.

Obesity, being overweight, being 40 plus, 25 plus in Black and South Asian communities or genetics play key roles in the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
