Lifestyle in Tayside is to blame for the increase in diabetes .

The number of diabetics in Tayside has rise 18,000 plus, according to recent figures.

Diabetes levels in this region are now more that the estimated levels for 2018.

The statistics clearly show that the increase of diabetes is a key public health problem; the latest Scottish Diabetes Survey places the numbers of diabetics in NHS Tayside in January 2010 at 18,157.

This is already over 2,000 more than the forecast figure for 2018.

The costs of diabetes to the individual, society and the NHS are immense and a leading national health problem.

The figures go to show that diet, levels of activity as well as lifestyle factors have all contributed to a sharp increase in diabetes.

Its is a major health priority to prevent it, especially as it is related to obesity, another key public health concern.
