Almost a tenth of the Chinese have diabetes and the majority of Type 2 Diabetes cases remain undiagnosed, so says recent research published last week.
This study discovered that diabetes is more endemic than thought with figures hinting that China has 92 million plus people diagnosed with this condition with around another 150 million displaying early symptoms .
The study authors attribute this increase to rapid economic growth and urbanisation which has impacted upon public health via changing diets as well as more sedentary lifestyles.
Beijing authorities are concerned that this increase represents a huge public health problem as this disease is usually a key cause of stroke, heart disease and kidney disease .
The last decade has seen the country's economy expand rapidly, with significant improvements in people's standards of living,
China's economic development has moved from a situation where many did not have enough to eat to having enough food, clothes, and not doing as much exercise .
