A Leicester based diabetes expert has been voted one of the key most influential GPs in the UK.
A poll placed Professor Kamlesh Khunti in the top 20 of current doctors who have moulded general practice.
He was listed in Pulse magazine, a top weekly medical publication, after a panel of 50 leading GPs were asked to judge which of their colleagues were most admirable.
It is such a bonus for Leicester to have such an acknowledged figure as Prof Khunti on this list.
Prof Khunti has been a GP in Leicester for two decades.
Most of his work is presently centred on diabetes research, winning national and international recognition.
The inclusion on this list of GPs has been a huge surprise to him.
He said: "Leicester is a truly multi-ethnic city and in terms of my research, I wouldn't have been able to do it anywhere else."
