It is crucial for diabictis to ensure that their condition is managed properly in order to lower the likelihood of developing kidney disease .

Nearly a third of individuals who have Type 2 diabetes develop kidney disease, and diabetes is most common cause of end stage renal disease.

Moreover, kidney disease is accountable for 21 per cent of deaths in Type 1 diabetics and 11 per cent of deaths in those with Type 2 diabetes.

Kidney disease can of course happen to anybody. However, it is a lot more common amongst those with diabetes and those with high blood pressure .

The kidneys filter and clean our blood and rid our bodies of waste products by making urine. They monitor the amount of fluid and different salts in our bodies, enabling us to control blood pressure. They also emit several hormones.

Kidney disease happens due to damage to small blood vessels, rendering the kidneys less efficient, triggering the failure of the kidneys.

The maintenance of blood glucose levels as near normal as possible and well controlled blood pressure can highly lower the risk of development of kidney disease and other diabetes related conditions.
