Last Saturday was National Obesity Day.
GPs have been assessing how many obese patients go through the surgery doors during a year.
There are around 4.4 million patients going through the doors of GPs per year.
In addition, there are around 12 million obese people in the UK, which is nearly a quarter of adults.
Very few GP practices have been resourced, mobilised or motivated to address their patients' obesity in a meaningful way.
This situation need to be addressed urgently.
Awarteness of obesity is not the problem, doing something about it is.
Tackling and treating obesity need to be high on the agenda, in order to avert a much worse scenario for type 2 diabetes, cancer and heart disease .
The approach of the medical profession to this life-threatening disease is essential, awareness in not enough.
