More Tests for Diabetes Urged in East Midlands

Tue, 07 Sep 2010
UK's leading diabetes charity has urged for more tests for diabetes .

According to the charity, 67,000 people or more are unaware that are likely to have diabetes; the Yorkshire and Humber Public Health Observatory supplied this estimate.

Diabetes UK stated that this figures which relates to Type 2 diabetes or adult-onset diabetes, is shocking.

It has urged primary care trusts within the region to place emphasis on screening at-risk groups.

The charity would like to see diabetes tests to be available in pharmacies.

Type 2 diabetes can cause amputation, blindness, stroke, heart disease and kidney failure, which can remain undetected for a decade.

So many people could be helped if their diabetic condition was detected earlier than is the case, by a simple diabetes test which can be requested from your G.P.

Being overweight, inactive and having a close relative with diabetes make you more prone to developing diabetes.
