It has been reported that biopharmaceutical company Santarus Inc has purchased manufacturing rights for an approved diabetes drug for $5 million.
Drugmakers S2Therapeutics Inc and VeroScience LLC have signed an agreement giving Santarus exclusive rights to make, market and sell Cycloset tablets in America.
Santarus stated that it anticipates launching Cycloset, a prescription drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, in November 2010.
Cycloset is said to improve blood sugar levels without raising cardiovascular risk.
Shares of the company have halved in monetary value since an American court ruled against it in April in a patent suit on its heartburn drug.
