Brand new research intimates that indivuduals who sleep less than six hours per night could be thrice as likely to develop a condition which can lead to diabetes and heart disease .
Warwick Medical School and the State University of New York researchers discovered that short sleep duration is related to a higher risk of a pre-diabetic state, called incident-impaired fasting glycaemia (IFG).
IFG equates to your body not being able to regulate glucose effectively.
Those with IFG are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes, as well as being at a higher risk of developing heart disease and stroke .
The researchers studied 1,455 participants over six years.
