Eating Nuts Can Benefit Some Diabetics

Eating a few nuts every day as opposed muffins can enable those with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar levels and reduce their bad cholesterol.

New University of Toronto research highlights that nuts can be beneficial to diabetics for reducing the likelihood of heart disease.

117 research participants were divided into three groups and each group ate two ounces of mixed nuts or a healthy muffin or nuts and a muffin.

Results highlight that three months later those who had eaten nuts showed the biggest improvement in reducing bad cholesterol in contrast to the other groups.

The findings provide Type 2 diabetics with a healthy alternative to carbohydrate.

The research shows that mixed, unsalted, dry-roasted or raw nuts have benefits for both blood glucose control and blood lipids and can be used to improve diabetes control without weight gain.
