Just twenty per cent of diabetics are in control of their diabetes .
This is a finding of 2010 health statistics released by the Abu Dhabi Health Authority.
This means that just 20 per cent of the 140,823 people diabetics in the emirate are in control of their condition.
Amongst the diabetics, women and those aged 60 plus have better control of their condition than men and younger people.
Performance of diabetes care in the emirate was measured for the first time in 2010.
Annual health statistics are compiled, especially as the emirate has high rates of chronic lifestyle diseases.
These lifestyle diseases include diabetes, obesity as well as cardiovascular diseases, which account for over 25 per cent of deaths in 2010.
