Being obese whilst pregnant, having diabetes or high blood pressure can cause autism.
These are new findings of multiple new studies which investigated which factors during pregnancy could impact on the likelihood of autism in children.
Approximately a tenth of American children have autism, neuro-developmental condition characterized by problems language, communication as well as social functioning, as well as repetitive or restrictive behaviours. Many children with autism also have other conditions, including epilepsy, anxiety disorders and gastrointestinal problems.
Recent research has found that the diagnosis is increasing, due to greater awareness and increased availability of autism services.
Further research suggests the actual incidence of autism is increasing too.
Autism is a hugely complex disorder which affects almost one per cent of children across the world.
