Tue, 20 Sep 2011
Past studies have intimated that diabetes increases the risk of an individual developing thyroid cancer.

New research shows that this is the case for Americans of retirement age.

The National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health conducted the research and discovered that the presence of diabetes increased the ten year risk of developing thyroid cancer by a quarter amongst aged between 50 and 71.

The research conclusions were based on data collected from approximately 500,000 men and women who participated in the NIH-American Association of Retired Persons Diet and Health Study, undertaken in 1995 and 1996.

All sorts of health information were provided for the Diet and Health studies, including information on the pancreatic health, diabetic status and body mass index of respondents.
