Diabetes Can Cause Deafness in Women

A new study has discovered that diabetes can cause deafness in women.

Type 2 diabetes can cause women to experience a higher degree of hearing loss as they get older, particularly if the metabolic disorder is not controlled effectively with medication.

The study was undertaken by the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit with women aged between 60 and 75.

The researchers discovered that those with well controlled diabetes had better hearing than those who had poorly controlled diabetes.

Those who had well controlled diabetes had similar hearing levels to same aged non-diabetic women.

Moreover, the study highlights worse hearing in all female diabetics aged less than 60, even if their diabetes is well controlled.

The study highlights the importance of type 2 diabetics controlling their condition, particularly as they get older given the damage their condition can have on their hearing loss.
